Once polycarbonate roofing or a partition is installed, the light entering the space, visibility and the overall appearance become part of everyday use. One project may aim to retain as much daylight as possible, while another calls for softer light or more privacy. These needs are the starting point for choosing a colour.

How much light does the space need?

Clear sheets generally transmit more visible light than tinted versions of the same structure and thickness. This matters for skylights, greenhouses and canopies near building windows. Roofing over a terrace can also affect the light in the room behind it, so the whole space needs to be considered.

Where daylight is abundant, a sheet with lower light transmission may be worth considering. However, a colour name alone is not enough for comparison. Products of the same shade but different thicknesses or structures can transmit different amounts of light, so the choice should be based on the technical data for the specific sheet.

Transparency and light diffusion

Light transmission indicates how much light passes through a sheet, while visibility describes how clearly the surroundings can be seen through it. The internal walls of multiwall polycarbonate affect the view, so even a clear multiwall sheet does not provide the same view as clear solid polycarbonate.

The Polyplast multiwall range includes clear, opal, grey and bronze options. Opal, milky-white sheets are relevant where the aim is to diffuse light and reduce direct visibility. Grey can complement neutral façades and metal structures, while bronze suits warmer-toned finishes. The amount of light transmitted by the selected sheet must also be considered.

What colour tells you about solar exposure

A darker sheet does not automatically mean that the space beneath the roofing will be cooler. Light transmission and solar energy transmission are different parameters. If the main aim is to reduce heat build-up indoors, the product’s solar control properties, the area and orientation of the glazing, and ventilation all need to be assessed.

UV protection should also be checked separately from colour. The layer that protects the sheet from ultraviolet radiation cannot be identified by its shade. For outdoor structures, it is important to select suitable protection and follow the manufacturer’s instructions on sheet orientation during installation.

Confirm the final choice with a sample

Before ordering a larger quantity of sheets, it is worth inspecting a material sample at the intended installation site. Daylight and artificial lighting, the background behind the sheet and the frame colour all change the overall impression. A sample helps assess the shade and visibility, while technical data makes it possible to compare product properties.

The colour of Polyplast sheets is selected together with thickness, structure, dimensions and UV protection requirements. It is useful to specify where the material will be installed and what lighting conditions are expected in the enquiry. This makes the selected shade a considered part of the project.

Polycarbonate colour affects a space’s lighting and appearance, so it should be selected alongside the sheet’s structure and technical properties.

["post-3229","polyplast_news","type-polyplast_news","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
